Rhetorical Analysis of Place

I really enjoy spending my time at the Thompson Library. Unlike other libraries on campus, the mode of the Thompson Library is pretty contemporary and stylish. Many walls are made of huge glasses, so that people can enjoy the sunlight which creates pleasant and comfortable atmosphere for people to study there. There are so many computers for students to use. Also, the library provides various type of study space for students. There are a lot of study tables, sofas and some quiet study rooms for students to study. The library also provides opportunity for students to socialize and interact with each other. Several group study rooms are located on the ground floor, so that students can work on their group assignments and projects together.

Thompson Library also provides a lot of other functions for people. Berry CafĂ© is located on the right side of west entrance. Students can enjoy delicious food and beverage together or just grab some snacks between classes. There is a Buckeye Bar on the left side of the west entrance. Assistants are there for solving some technology problems. However, people usually have to wait in a long line in order to get help. On the first floor, there is a Thompson Library Gallery which exhibits some special collections. Campus Reading Room is on the 11th floor which is the top floor. This is my favorite place at the Thompson. I can view the entire campus though huge windows. Even though I don’t want to study sometimes, I can still come to the Thompson to enjoy the beautiful and amazing sight to relax myself. It makes the Thompson much more special than other libraries on campus.

  1. I enjoy how you capture the entirety of the library. You explain more than just hitting the books hard or utilizing it as a quiet space. The Thompson Library really is a central part of campus and it overlooks OSU in all of its radiant glory. Personally, I don't go to the library much however when I have been there it has shown to be an integral icon for this campus. It invokes a study environment that is welcoming rather than demotivating. There are so many crevices, like you describe, to lose yourself away from the bustle of the world and get work done.

  2. The Thompson Library indeed is an important part of OSU campus together with The Oval, and there are also stories about them. I've been to The Thompson some times and it seems like there's always a lots of people in there, so I guess OSU students are all good students. lol
